Behind the Scenes with the PPOC Travelling Dress Project 2025

Life is Beautiful, let me capture yours.

When the Travelling Dress arrived, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. I had been following its journey across the country, watching as my fellow Professional Photographers of Canada members each created their own vision with it. Every stop brought new ideas, new light, and new stories, and I could not wait to add mine. The dress itself is a stunning teal that seems to shift colours with every environment. It’s dramatic and elegant, yet soft enough to move beautifully in the wind. I knew right away that I wanted to show its versatility against Manitoba’s incredible fall landscapes. We explored a mix of locations, from golden prairies and sandy ridges to quiet lakeshores and forest paths. Every setting gave the dress a new personality.

Some of my favorite images came from those unexpected moments, like when the sunset painted the sky deep orange, or when the reflection on the pond made the fabric glow even brighter. The dress felt alive in each scene, wrapping around trees, sweeping through fields, and flowing across the rocks by the water.  The postal strike delayed us from sending the dress out on Friday morning, but that turned out to be a happy accident. Because of the delay, we had time for one last photo at sunset, and it became one of my favorites. That perfect leaping image, just as the sky turned from blue to mauve, felt like the dress had a little magic of its own.

The Travelling Dress sessions were extra special thanks to our incredible models. They brought so much energy, grace, and creativity to every moment, helping this teal gown come to life in the most beautiful ways. Each location felt like a new story, and the models made it all look effortless. From laughter in the forest to that bright blue skies by beautiful Steep Rock, they made the entire shoot a joy from start to finish.

We even had a visit from Brett, the founder of Warlock Lid Co ( www.facebook.com/WarlockLidCo ) who made a little Toba Hat appearance and added an extra touch of Manitoba charm to the day. I am so grateful for everyone who helped make these sessions Amazing .It reminded me that great images come from teamwork, trust, and a shared love for creating something beautiful.

What I love most about this project is the spirit behind it. The PPOC Travelling Dress Project is a collaboration of photographers from across Canada, all coming together to celebrate creativity. One dress, many artists, and countless interpretations. It’s such a joy to see how each photographer brings their own heart and imagination to the same piece of fabric. The PPOC community is truly something special. We learn from each other, inspire one another, and celebrate every creative spark. Being part of this project reminded me how powerful collaboration can be. It’s not just about a dress. It’s about connection, growth, and the beauty of shared artistry.

If you would like to see more from my Travelling Dress session, take a look at the collage below. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I loved creating them.

In November there will be another post with images from the photographers as well! Stay tuned!
